The holy grail of questions!! Law firms know you want an idea of how much money you could receive. Advertisements will often promise to tell you “exactly how much your case it worth,” and then avoid the topic or give broad ranges when you talk with them.
There are TWO reasons why you can’t know the value of your case in advance.
- Unknown facts of the case. There are many variables to a case. Injuries. Insurance policy. State laws. It’s like asking a car mechanic how much it is to fix your car without them knowing the problem.
- The lawyer on the case. There are big differences in money results simply based on which lawyer handles the case. Yes, even within the same law firm, each specific lawyer will still have different results.
There are many similar injury cases with very different payouts. Some lawyers can consistently get the insurance company to pay out more money. One case in Florida was transferred to another lawyer near the end of the case… the case settlement went from $100,000 to $900,000 with the new lawyer. Another large case in Nevada was close to settling for $1,000,000. The client changed lawyers and their case ultimately settled for $5,000,0000. Same state, same insurance, same injuries, same treatment, same evidence, but very different results. This is why it’s so important to have the right lawyer on your case. Remember to ask for the injury lawyer with the highest money average (money over insurance average).
